We're all guilty of pushing ourselves a little too hard sometimes, but we rarely think about the consequences. Don't neglect yourself any longer! Internalize this list of tips for the struggling workaholic, and make both your work and home lives happier.

Listen To Your Body

Your body is very good at giving you clues when you are tired, hungry, need exercise, or even just a little time to relax. It’s not only OK, but also important to listen to these cues instead of always pushing through to get more work done.

Actively Plan Your Sleep Schedule

It’s not enough to “try to get to bed early.” Set yourself a bedtime, turn off your electronics, do an activity that relaxes you, and enjoy restful sleep and waking up refreshed.

Get Exercise!

The release of endorphins you get from exercising will substantially improve your work day, we promise. Exercising will help you be your happiest, healthiest, most energetic and most productive self at work.

Remember Your Vitamins

Whether you get them through your regular diet or multi-vitamin supplements, make sure you’re getting the nutrients your body needs to sustain itself through a work day.

Spend Time Outside

This is especially important if you don’t work near a window. Fresh air, sunlight, and freedom are good for you. Don’t deprive yourself!

Take Time For Yourself

Your job can pull you in so many different directions that you forget to think about your own interests and desires. Make sure you take time to do some things that you like, and spend some time alone!

Use Vacation Time!

Get out of the office! Whether you’re going someplace tropical, visiting a cool city, or just taking time at home to relax, it’s important to have carefree days away from work.

Take A Sick Day

Your job is important to you, sure, but consider your health and the well-being of those around you! Coming to work sick is usually unproductive, detrimental to your recovery, and unsafe for those who share your work environment!

Read A Book

Reading something stimulating and engaging for nobody’s benefit but your own is good for you! You’ll be glad you did.

Meditate

Take time to relax, breathe, and clear your mind. It will make you both happier, and more mindful at work, which could improve your performance!

Focus On Mindfulness

This is why we meditate! You can’t control what happened last week, or what will happen two weeks from now. Focus your mind on the present task, and allow yourself to accomplish it.

Let Your Mistakes Go

We’re not suggesting you don’t hold yourself accountable for your decisions at work and otherwise, just remember not to beat yourself up over it! Your work is much more likely to improve if you aren’t putting undue pressure on yourself.

And Forgive Others As Well

Holding on to the mistakes of others doesn’t punish them, it only adds an artificial weight on your mind. Let them off the hook, because you’ll be letting yourself off the hook with them.

Think About Personal Care

Hygiene and personal care are a huge component of your happiness. Go get a manicure!

Take A Hot Bath After A Long Day

Few things in life are more comforting. Relax and unwind! You’ll be thankful you chose to.
