It can be difficult to find your footing in today's frantic working world, but take heart and know that you have what it takes! Follow these simple strategies, and you're sure to have an improved work experience.

Drink coffee!

And not just for the caffeine! The coffee shop is a great place to network or meet up and discuss potential prospects.

Power pose often.

Even if it makes you feel a little silly, it’s a worthwhile tactic! Studies have shown that your posture can have a profound influence on the hormones your body produces, which in turn can affect how you perform in meetings and other stressful situations!

Be transparent about your ambitions.

Make sure your ambitions are clear both to yourself and your superiors. Taking the initiative to advance yourself reflects positively on you.

Squad up!

Create a network of potential mentors as well as people you can help out. Having a support structure can be a huge help!

But flock together with your peers too!

Few people will be better equipped to provide insight related to your job than your peers, so use them as a resource!

Do some detective work.

Investigate for information on your dream job or field! Don’t be intimidated to ask questions of people who are doing what you want to do; you might find out some valuable information in the process!

Don’t be afraid to think big.

Set big goals, but accomplish them in small pieces or increments.

Set date-specific goals.

Setting goals without dates is essentially useless; there’s no impetus to push you to get anything done in a timely fashion. Employ date-specific goal setting, and see how much more productive you become!

Push yourself to reach new heights.

Don’t just fake it till you make it, fake it till you become it. You might surprise yourself!

Let yourself daydream from time to time.

Sometimes our daydreams are actually the most honest representations of what we actually desire for ourselves. Let yourself find what you really want!

Don’t let learning end with college!

Continue your education after you’re finished with school. The more you expand your skill set, the more versatile and valuable you can be as an employee!

Work to find the right balance.

Remember to consider your health and happiness outside of work when weighing any potential career decision. Be ambitious, and don’t short-change yourself, but remember that you’re a human being with a life outside the office.

Always consider the path you’re on carefully.

Think carefully about the reasons why you’re pursuing the things you are in life. Are you following the path that you want, or are you allowing others to dictate your career journey?

This isn’t school, copying can be okay!

Sure, maintain your own identity and come up with your own ideas, but also bear in mind that you may have something to learn from your associates! Are there elements of your coworkers’ styles you could emulate and improve on?

The look matters.

Both for your external image and your confidence! Pick out a look that represents your personality, and make it work for you!

Not all of your time can be dedicated to what you love.

Sometimes the old adage of “Do what you love for a living,” doesn’t hold true universally. Sometimes the best move is to do what allows you the financial security and/or free time to do what you love in your spare time.

Even if you like where you are, always be looking.

Plan for the next step! Keep in mind potential next stops for your career path, be aware of the qualifications required, and how you measure up to them!

Keep dreaming!

Sometimes what you thought was the endpoint of your journey, or your ‘dream job’, is another stop along the way to something better! Never assume you’re a finished product, and continue to acquire skills that could help you advance further.

Baby Steps.

Remember that sometimes you have to set small goals in order to accomplish larger ones without getting bogged down.

Find your trouble spots.

Oddly enough, remembering what you got in trouble for as a kid can be an instructive line of thought. It reveals information about your tendencies, strengths, and weaknesses.

Treat your work as science.

Whether a project works out or doesn’t, be mindful and ask yourself why! Treat your work as a constant series of experiments, and refine your process based on the outcomes you experience.

Don’t wait around.

Your personal progress depends, more than anything else, on your willingness to take the initiative for your own benefit. Don’t wait for somebody else to give you a push!

Sometimes you have to give up.

It might run contrary to everything you’ve been told, but some tasks weren’t meant for you, and that’s okay. Learn what you’re good at, and push yourself, but don’t make yourself miserable with projects that don’t suit you at all.
