Ever try to do something nice for someone else, only it completely backfires? That's what happened to one Reddit user, but luckily he was able to serve some sweet revenge.

It Seemed Like A Good Idea

Renting out extra space can be a great way to have another source of income. Someone’s bound to want to use it, and having some pocket change is never a bad thing. That’s what one Reddit user, “Vincent,” thought after he bought a trailer house. When he decided to rent the trailer house out to a young couple, “Charles,” and “Claudia,” he thought it was a great fit for everyone.

He gets a little extra money, and Charles and Claudia have a roof over their heads while trying to raise their newborn. However, nothing is ever as it seems. Without having any idea, Vincent had just opened the door to a world of issues.

The Issues Quickly Started To Form

Vincent was more than happy to rent his trailer house to the young couple; he gave them two months of free rent provided they fix up the house a bit. This included putting in a toilet, hooking up the water heater, and carpeting the living room. To Vincent’s delight, there were no complaints from Charles and Claudia; they got the work done and began turning the trailer house into a trailer home.

After the two months of free rent was up, Vincent began charging them a measly $450 a month. All things considered, this was very generous; the couple were pretty young and had an infant to take care of. Except there was one glaring issue; they never coughed up the money.

Now, Vincent knew Charles and Claudia weren’t exactly rolling in cash, but Charlies had just spent “$1,500 on a new engine for his project car,” Vincent recalled. They were also able to afford various electronics and fast-food, so they were by no means hurting for cash.

Vincent was getting feed up with the lack of cash and knew exactly what to do to get them to pay up.

They Finally Left, But Not Without A Fight

Nothing. He did absolutely nothing.

‘I didn’t put in the furnace as I promised, and if they hadn’t had a newborn I would have padlocked the house,’ Vincent said.

Still, neither Charles nor Claudia paid their rent, even after they got a tax refund. When questioned as to why Charles said ‘they knew their rights and were in a rent strike.’

Things only got worse when Charles was laid off at work. Out of the goodness of his heart, Vincent didn’t charge them until Charles was back on his feet. But when he got a new job, Charles told Vincent to get bent when he was asked for what seemed like the millionth time to pay rent.

Finally, at his breaking point, Vincent gave them two weeks to pay up or he would formally evict them. Aside from losing their place to live, being evicted would cause a world of issues for Charles and Claudia. Charles had been placed on house arrest a few months prior to renting the trailer house, and being evicted would result in a violation for him.

Seeing how badly this situation would end for him and his family, Charles and Claudia quickly vacated the premises. Vincent thought everything was said and done, until he stepped foot into the trailer house.

Taking Matters Into His Own Hands

Everything Charles and Claudia had installed in the trailer house over the two-month rent-free period had been removed. The trailer house had been scraped clean, and it was like no work had ever been done.

This was the straw that broke the camel’s back; After everything he had done for them, including never getting any rent in the time they lived in the trailer house, Charles and Claudia were going to steal his property? Vincent had been Mr. Nice Guy for far too long. So, he did the logical thing and took Charles and Claudia to court by filing a formal eviction.

The Judge Quickly Saw Their Lies

Vincent was more than ready to get what was rightfully his, but Charles and Claudia were not going to go down without a fight (even though it turned out to be a pathetic one).

Upon meeting in court, the couple stated they did not pay rent because Vincent did not provide the furnace. Since there was no heat, there wasn’t going to be any rent. This seems like a pretty reasonable excuse for withholding payment, but one key detail was missing; Charles and Claudia never filed that claim with the courts, they just thought they could simply not pay their rent.

The judge was obviously on Vincent’s side for this, and ordered the couple to pay for two months’ rent for stealing everything within the trailer house. Now normally, most people would accept the fact they lost the battle, and bow out gracefully. But not these two.

Enraged he was forced to pay Vincent the money he rightfully deserved, Charles began a verbal tirade against him.

However, Vincent knew exactly what to say to him, and knew it would land him in even more trouble.

They Got What They Deserved

‘Well, you didn’t tell me you were going to be going on house arrest when you rented the property,’ Vincent snidely remarked.

The judge immediately snapped his head around, demanding to know if this was true. Face as pale as a ghost, Charles mumbled that it was. With everything out in the open, the judge made his final ruling; Vincent was to be paid $450 a month for 15 months, and $2,000 in damages. The way Charles and Claudia savagely removed the appliance left quite a lot of damage, and it would take a lot of time and money to properly restore the trailer house. Charles’s eviction was also turned over to his parole officer, causing even more legal issues for him.

The icing on the cake was when Charles was arrested on grounds of violating house arrest months later, Claudia had the nerve to ask Vincent to speak on his behalf at the hearing.

Saying ‘No’ might have been the most satisfying no of Vincent’s entire life. The judge ruled Charles’s would have to spend six months in jail, which makes sense; the only house Charles truly belongs in is the big house.
