Have you ever felt like you’re the only worker in an office full of managers? Now you can see if it’s true!
Thanks to a couple of data miners, the US Census Bureau, and the internet, we now know the most popular occupations for towns and cities around America. Researchers sifted through the U.S. Census Five Year Community Survey to analyze more than a dozen occupations in America and half-dozen industries. They then compiled the information and published an interactive study, which allows users to enter a zip code, and the study retrieves the most popular occupation for that community.
Interested in moving to St. Louis? New York? Washington, D.C.? Hollywood? These cities are known for their professional occupations. On the other hand, Chicago is full of management, financial and other business occupations. You probably wouldn’t guess that Las Vegas is known for maintenance workers and grounds cleaners, right? But it’s true!
Try it out yourself. Management, professional and related occupations are the most popular careers in America, according to the study, while construction and maintenance occupations are pretty rare. Agricultural occupations like farming and fishing are not uncommon, but they’re widespread across the country.
What’s the most popular career in your own town? Are you surprised by the study?
