It Doesn’t Need To Be A Work Of Art
Even if everyone agrees on the general components that should be in a candidate’s resume, there are a few simple things you can do to keep yours out of the trash can and on top of the pile!
First, re-examine your formatting. Lots of people use complex tables, pictures, or word art to make their resume stand out, but be careful! If you’re uploading your resume to an automated submission portal like Taleo, those elements could confuse the system and cause your resume to be automatically rejected. The same is true for fancy fonts as well. Arial and Times might be boring, but they’re safe because the software will know how to interpret them!
Good Luck, You Got This!
Additionally, keep keywords in mind! The system may be looking for mentions of specific phrases when filtering applicants, so keep in mind the specific words your prospective employer has used in the job description. If you see word combinations a lot, that’s usually a good sign those should show up in your resume! Keep these tips in mind, and you’ll substantially increase your chances of being the next hire!
